Devlog #4 - Balancing V 0.3.1

Hello again,

This update is a short one as it is mostly concerned with balancing and some other changes I made before I realized that the V0.3.0 was too difficult. I also joined the Improve My Game Jam 23 so please rate my game and check out the other entries :) 

Graphics and Quality of Life

One small addition to the game are destroyed sprites for all enemy buildings. They are pretty basic at the moment, but I plan to spice them up with some particles in the future.


Another thing I added is a “boss health bar” for certain buildings and enemies. It got pretty hard to see the stats of the castle if you have many units. This should make it easier for the player to see how the attack is going. What do you think of it?

Balancing

So I tried to make the game a bit more balanced. First of all I reduced the enemy scaling and increased the strength of nearly all Upgrades. It’s quite hard to find values for all parameters to make the game challenging but not too hard.

I also reworked some mechanics as the old ones were hard or borderline impossible to balance the way I wanted it. The biggest change regards defence. You now have current defence and max defence. Every time a unit is hit the current defence drops by one. Out of combat it slowly regenerates. For damage calculation only the current defence is used. This makes it possible to kill units even if their defence would be way too high to damage them. This replaces my old fix for the same issue, where defence can only reduce the damage to 1.
